Our Story
Tonia Boyd (bka) Tona Michelle and Dawn Fowlkes, two dynamic step-sisters with a passion for empowering minority women-led small businesses in the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle industries. Tired of seeing these businesses underrepresented and underserved by traditional branding firms, they saw the need to create a new kind of agency, one that truly understands the unique needs of these minority female entrepreneurs.
Meet The Team
Tona Michelle
Founder/Creative Director
Tona Michelle is an experienced entrepreneur and creative director with over 20 years in the fashion and beauty industries. She began as a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant, quickly becoming a top seller and recruiter. She later attended beauty school to become a licensed Make-up Artist, with experience in independent films and freelance writing for online and print magazines.
In 2009, Tona started her own online boutique and cosmetics brand, and later became a successful style consultant and wardrobe stylist, appearing on local/national television and in national/international fashion magazines.
Tona learned about creative direction, branding, and marketing through her experience as a business owner where she provided these services for her own business. In 2022, she launched October Moon Branding Agency, a creative branding agency for minority and women-led businesses in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. Tona saw that there was a lack of representation with big branding firms for minority women-led business owners in these industries and decided to fill that gap.
Dawn Fowlkes
Head Designer/Partner
Dawn Fowlkes is a Graphic Designer with over 10 years’ experience in the industry. She started her career wanting to provide services to small businesses in the black and brown community, by founding KinFowlkes Design Solutions, but quickly realized that she could offer her skills to businesses of all sizes. While working with businesses on the local and national scale, she discovered that, "you are your biggest advocate, and your voice deserves to be heard!"
Dawn has a natural instinct for design and a passion for creating effective visual communication solutions that help businesses achieve their goals. Her approach is simple – she takes the time to understand her clients’ businesses and their target markets, then develops creative designs that speak to their audiences. Her work encompasses everything from logo design and branding to marketing collateral and website design. Dawn believes that an attractive, well-crafted design can be the difference between success and failure for a small business, and she works hard to give each one the best chance for success.
